Padilla is Back with the Rangers....Zito Next?

It is reported that the Texas Rangers and Vicente Padilla have reached an agreement worth 34 million over three years. Padilla was one of the few bright spots in the rotation last year as he compiled a 15-10 record with a 4.50 era and 156 strikeouts in 200 innings.

This was a very important move for the Texas Rangers who have a depleted rotation at the time. He will most likely fill the number two spot in the rotation behind the proven veteran Kevin Millwood. Was this the right signing though?

Padilla had a very solid year last year and did prove he could pitch in the Texas heat. But all of this came under his contract year though. Padilla is know to have a lackadaisical attitude and only pitches well when he needs to. He has the ability to be a great pitcher, but he lacks the will. The year that Padilla was an All-Star with the Phillies was also his contract year. After his All Star year when he resigned with the Phillies he declined dramatically. Hopefully Padilla will show the Texas Rangers that they invested wisely in him, if not it will be another huge bust for the Rangers and GM Jon Daniels.

MORE ZITO NEWS! The Texas Rangers have reporably given Zito a six-year, $102 million offer. That would be $17 million per season which no team likely will match. -according to foxsports.com

That Zito offer is false....Daniels said he would prefer signing him to under a 100 mil dollar deal but would go there if necessary.
